If you have found a pet, you must first check if the animal is ID-marked. To do this, you need a scanner, which can be found at veterinarians, the police, and Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge’s local branches, among other places.
DyreID
If the animal is tagged, it is easy to look up the owner in DyreID’s database.
Dyrebar
If the animal is not tagged, you should advertise that you have found an animal. There are national websites for this, such as www.dyrebar.no
There are many groups on Facebook that advertise pets that are lost or found. These often have a local connection, so you should check what is available in your local area.
If no owner comes forward
If no owner comes forward, you may contact one of Animal Protection Norway’s local branches. We assist to the best of our ability, but please keep in mind that the branches are operated on a voluntary basis and the workload is significant. We respond to inquiries as they are received and as capacity allows.
What do you do when you find an apparently homeless cat?
You have lost a pet
If you have lost an animal, you must first search in your local area. Take a walk around the neighborhood and ask your neighbors if they can check garages and sheds. It sometimes happens that animals, especially cats, manage to get locked inside.
Veterinarian
Contact your nearest veterinarian to hear if they have received any injured or apparently homeless animals.
Dyrebar and DyreID
Post ads on websites where you can register missing animals, such as www.dyrebar.no and www.dyreid.no (if ID-marked).
In addition, there are a number of pages on Facebook where you can register missing animals.
Local branches
Please feel free to contact Animal Protection Norway’s local branches to inquire whether we may have received your animal.
